Grand Frais goes to Paris. According to our colleagues at Monde, the food distribution brand, which already has numerous points of sale in the greater Paris region, is preparing to open its first supermarket in the capital. Prepared discreetly, this opening would be planned during the first half of 2024, in place of a former Bio c’Bon store located at 20, rue Lecourbe in the 15th arrondissement.

This sales space of just under 500m² will offer customers “fresh food products”, under the Mon-marché.fr brand, one of the 3 brands of the Grand Frais group dedicated to delivery in Paris and in near suburb.

350 stores in France and 3.3 billion euros in turnover in 2023

The arrival of the mass distribution brand in Paris is symbolic, as the brand has historically been more established outside major cities, in the heart of peri-urban commercial activity zones (ZAC). Named the French favorite brand in 2022 in the “specialized food” category according to the EY-Parthenon study, Grand Frais is attracting more and more customers thanks to its concept around the sale of fresh products, particularly fruits and vegetables. . A profitable strategy as more and more consumers seek to combine healthy eating and affordable prices.

Founded in 1992 in Givors (Rhône) by Denis Dumont, the Grand Frais group today has more than 350 stores in France structured around three distinct brands, for a turnover reaching 3.3 billion euros in 2023. Grand Frais supermarkets represent the largest share, with 307 points of sale in France, built in the form of a large food hall. According to our colleagues from Le Monde, the average rate of opening of these supermarkets would be two per month in commercial areas.

On a smaller scale, the Fresh brand brings together around fifty points of sale and 10 to 15 openings per year. These supermarkets of less than 500 m² are rather located in small provincial towns, such as Saint-Pol-de-Léon (Finistère), where a new Fresh store is due to open in early 2024.

Finally, the Mon-marché.fr brand, launched in 2020, offers a formula halfway between the store and the drive, with 4 preparation workshops in Paris, installed notably in car parks. The opening of the first Parisian store further diversifies the service offered by Grand Frais, which is continuing its expansion at high speed.
