Time.news – A nightmare New Year’s Eve awaits thousands of travellers who today should have reached London or Paris – very popular capitals for the holidays – and who are instead bivouacking in the stations because sections of the Eurotunnel are unusable due to bad weather and, consequently, a few hours ago all traffic was blocked.

A decision taken “due to the flooding of a high-speed line tunnel near London”, he announced on social media Eurostar after announcing, this morning, the cancellation of fifteen trains on the railway line connecting the United Kingdom to Europe.

No Eurostar trains will depart from London (St Pancras International station) or Paris (Gare du Nord), according to the railway company, which is periodically updating the situation on its website.

The flooding affected a section of the tunnel located near the international station Ebbsfleet, (Kent). The British Met Office had announced that rain, snow and ice would hit large areas of the country today. The images broadcast this afternoon by British broadcasters confirm the presence of a serious water leak in the railway tunnel while social networks were ‘flooded’ with photos and video stories of the passengers left stranded who, according to them, are also suffering heavy inconvenience due to services and reduced staff during the holidays.

This is in fact one of the busiest weekends of the year and today’s block occurs a few days after the paralysis of December 21st when a surprise strike was called by Eurostar staff on the exact same route.
