The movie ‘Negu slujaak’ will be released on February 23 in the cinemas of the Southern Basque Country and Spain. It had its world premiere at the 76th Locarno Film Festival and received a Special Mention from the Jury. ‘Winter is coming’ is a work about isolation, waiting and longing for identity.
It tells the story of an escape: ETA has announced the definitive end of armed activity. A young woman runs away with a clear goal: to cross the border, because she knows that she will be able to move away from home, because she is not safe in her hometown. Running away, he reaches the town of Zubieta. In that town on the border, it seems, ancient myths and contemporary conflicts come together. Hiding in the attic of a village house, he discovers the daily life there, which is as immovable as a stone. As time passes, in this place where days become night and nights become day, the young man’s escape will become more and more complicated.
Thus, the filming was carried out in Zubieta (Navarro) and, in fact, local citizens – Beñardo Mutuberria, Ana Hualde, Markos Juanikorena, Ibai Juanikorena and Bautista Santesteban – worked in the acting roles. Along with them, Jone Laspiur is the only professional actor, in fact in the role of the main girl.
Written by Ekain Albit, Mikel Ibarguren, Nicola Mallofré, Xalba Ramirez and Adriá Roca; Albite himself and Edu V. Romero have been responsible for the editing work. Javi Seva was the director of photography and Justina Monserrat was the art director.
