Absent from the field since April 23 and a slap against Newcastle, Frenchman Hugo Lloris officially leaves Tottenham to join Los Angeles FC, on the other side of the Atlantic, as we announced to you on Thursday. The native of Nice signed a one-year contract on Friday, until 2025, which could be extended for several seasons.

The record holder for selections for the French team (145 selections between 2008 and 2022) will therefore experience a fourth club at the age of 37, after three seasons in Nice, four in Lyon and no less than eleven at Tottenham. With the London club, Lloris played 447 matches before being put on the shelf for several months. Stalled due to an injury and since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, the former captain of the Blues has found a way out.

LAFC, a club founded in 2014, has played in Major League Soccer, the top North American football division since 2018. In 2022, the Californian club won the championship for the first time in its history, before losing the 2023 final to at the Columbus Crew on December 9.

Los Angeles FC’s first match of the season is scheduled for February 24, 2024 against the Seattle Sounders. In California, Lloris will find a former well-known Ligue 1 player: the Gabonese Denis Bouanga, former player of Nîmes and Saint-Étienne. In December 2023, there will be around ten French players in the MLS championship. Among them, former Montpellier player Arnaud Souquet, who plays for the Chicago Fire.
