PlayStation Hacker TheFloW Wins $10,000 Bonus from Sony Bug Bounty Program

Renowned PlayStation hacker, TheFloW, recently confirmed on LinkedIn that he has once again received a $10,000 bonus from Sony through the HackerOne bug bounty program. This indicates that the researcher has submitted a major vulnerability to Sony, although it is still unknown if and when the vulnerability will be made public.

The jailbreaking community for PS4 and PS5 has been eagerly awaiting a breakthrough for the old firmware. In September of this year, TheFloW simply advised “Don’t upgrade” in the community, suggesting that he may have had the technical key to jailbreak, likely through a kernel vulnerability targeting PS5 or PS4, or both.

This week, TheFloW’s LinkedIn posts confirmed that important news was on the horizon. An email from the PlayStation Security Team to TheFloW stated, “Thank you very much for your report! We have reproduced your findings, decided to rate this report as high severity, and will reward you with a $10,000 reward.”

At present, Sony has not indicated whether it will disclose this vulnerability chain. However, TheFloW has been pushing for the disclosure of the vulnerability he discovered after obtaining approval from Sony.

The gaming community will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on any developments related to TheFloW’s findings, eagerly anticipating potential advancements and improvements as a result of the disclosed vulnerability.
