A 10-year-old boy is dead and his father and a juvenile suspect are in custody after a tragic shooting in Sacramento County, California.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Foothill Farms community when the 10-year-old victim, identified as Keith “KJ” Frierson, was shot and killed by another child. According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, whose name has been withheld due to his status as a juvenile, retrieved a stolen gun from his father’s car and bragged about having a gun before shooting the victim and fleeing to a nearby apartment.

Deputies found the victim bleeding from the head and neck and attempted to administer life-saving efforts before he was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect’s father, 53-year-old Arkete Davis, allegedly attempted to get rid of the gun by placing it in a trash can. He has been arrested and booked on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal storage of a firearm, carrying a stolen loaded firearm in a vehicle, child endangerment, and acting as an accessory to a crime after the fact. Davis is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The juvenile suspect has been detained at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility, with upcoming court appearances currently unavailable.

The tragic incident has shocked the Foothill Farms community and left many questioning how such a deadly weapon ended up in the hands of a child. The Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office has not responded to requests for comment on the case.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and both the suspect’s father and the juvenile are in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
