Several regions of Japan were placed on tsunami alert on Monday, after a major earthquake of magnitude 7.4 which took place in the center of the country shortly after 4 p.m. (8 a.m. French time). “The epicenter was in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture,” specifies the Japanese meteorological agency.
“All residents must immediately evacuate to higher ground,” said national broadcaster NHK for the attention of the inhabitants of this area. Japanese authorities ordered the population to take refuge on higher ground, as waves could reach up to 5 meters high.
A major tsunami warning has been issued for the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture.
Expected height is 5 meters, expected to be reached
