Massive import fraud detected in Sri Lanka!

Customs officials have seized beetroots smuggled into the country under the guise of importing potatoes in violation of import laws in Sri Lanka.

16,000 tons of beetroot hidden in 44,000 tons of potatoes were brought in a 40-foot river container, officials said, adding that the value of the recovered beetroot was 3.2 million rupees.

It is noteworthy that the Sri Lankan government has banned the import of beetroot on the grounds that it encourages local imports.
