There were no big doubts, but now it’s really official. Morita is part of Japan’s squad for the Asian Cup and will miss Sporting for around a month.
The Leo midfielder is part of the list of 26 players chosen by coach Hajime Moriyasu for a competition that starts on January 12th and has the final scheduled for February 10th. It is worth remembering that the Japanese are one of the countries that aspire to win the competition (they lost in the final of the last edition) and, therefore, there is a real scenario for Morita to actually play in the final.
The Asian Cup and the African Cup of Nations (January 13th to February 11th) are problems for Portuguese teams and especially for Sporting. In addition to Morita, Rúben Amorim’s squad will be without Ousmane Diomande, who was called up by Ivory Coast.
