Argentine Lionel Scaloni, world champion coach in Qatar 2022, was chosen as the best technical director of national teams in 2023 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Scaloni, also current champion of the Copa América and the Finalissima, a cup between the champions of America and Europe, led the ranking with 185 points, followed by the Frenchman Didier Deschamps, world runner-up with the French team, with 112 points.
Also among the top 10 is the Argentine Marcelo Bielsa, coach of Uruguay in fifth place with 43 units, who is having an excellent World Cup qualifying match with the eastern team.
This was the same classification as last year, therefore Scaloni thus won his second consecutive IFFHS award, while Deschamps shows great consistency since 2016, as he was 5th. in 2016, 5th. in 2017, 1st. in 2018, 4th. in 2019, 1st. in 2020, 3rd. in 2021, 2nd in 2022 and 2023)
The IFFHS, based in the Swiss city of Lausanne, is an entity recognized by FIFA because the institution receives logistical support from the highest world football body, and its accredited members have exclusive access to the FIDOM-FIFA archives.
On the other hand, FIFA repeatedly indicated that the classification of football clubs and the recognitions granted by the IFFHS are independent of their own.
