The Thiruvabharans to be Placed on Ayyappa Idol at Sabarimala on Makarasamkrama Sandhya

Pandalam: The sacred Thiruvabharans, which will be placed on the Ayyappa idol at Sabarimala on Makaravilak, will be taken in a grand procession from Pandalam on the 13th of January, marking the auspicious occasion of Makarasamkrama Sandhya.

The Tiruvabharans, which are kept in the Pandalam Srambic Palace, will be carried to Sabarimala on foot by members led by Gangadharan Pillai due to Guruswami Kula. The procession will be led by Thrikettanal Rajarajavarma as the representative of Pandalam Kottaram Valiyathampuran Thiruvonanal Ramavarmaraja.

The event will kick off with the ornaments being taken to Valiyakoikal Dharmashastha Temple on the morning of January 13. Devotees will have the opportunity to view the ornaments until 12 noon, after which ritual ceremonies will be held in the temple. The king’s representative will then emerge from the temple and embark on the journey with the palanquin. After the pool closure at one o’clock, the procession, led by Gangadharan Pillai, will move with the jewelers on their heads.

The procession will follow the traditional Thiruvabharan route, passing through Kulanada, Ullannoor, Aranmula, Perunad, and Kananapatha, before finally reaching Sabarimala by passing through Valianavattam and Cherianavattam via Attamod.

Makarajyoti will light up at Ponnambalamed when the Thiruvabharans are placed on the Sabarisha idol and the Deeparadhan is performed. The king, who is traveling with the procession, will reach Pampa and bless the devotees with ashes. On the third day, the king’s representative, after performing the Kalabha at Sabarimala and the Kuruti at Malikappuram, will close the Sabarimala and return to Pandalam with the ornaments.

This sacred procession, steeped in tradition and spirituality, is an important annual event that holds deep significance for devotees and pilgrims alike.
