San Francisco 49ers’ Ambry Thomas to Undergo Surgery for Hand Injury

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Ambry Thomas will be sidelined for the team’s regular season finale as he undergoes surgery to repair a broken hand. Thomas, who played with a cast in Week 17, will have the procedure to address his injury.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Thomas will miss the upcoming game and indicated that the cornerback may have to wear a protective device similar to the cast he used in the last game.

In addition to Thomas’ injury, the 49ers will also be without Christian McCaffrey, who is dealing with a mild calf strain. However, Shanahan expressed optimism that McCaffrey’s injury will not keep him out of playoff action.

The team will continue to manage other injuries as well, with defensive tackle Arik Armstead resting his ankle and knee, tight end Ross Dwelley unlikely to play due to a high-ankle sprain, and wide receiver Jauan Jennings and offensive tackle Jaylon Moore still in the concussion protocol.

Safety Ji’Ayir Brown is considered a possibility to play this week, while the team is also evaluating whether specific starters will be featured in the regular season finale against the Los Angeles Rams.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud will have his practice window opened after being on the injured reserve since Week 12 due to a rib injury.

With key players sidelined, the 49ers will rely on a heavy dose of Elijah Mitchell and Darrell Luter Jr. to fill in for the injured starters in their upcoming match.

As the team navigates through a series of injuries, the focus will be on managing player health and ensuring a strong presence in the upcoming playoffs.
