No, it’s not yet too late to attend the Olympic Games in France this summer. But, on the website of the official ticket office, an observation is emerging: the 24 euro tickets concern almost exclusively football, which seems to have great difficulty filling its stadiums. For other disciplines, there are very few tickets left for less than 50 euros. When the ticket office was launched at the start of the year, the organizers assured that one million places (10% of the total) were sold at 24 euros and 50% at less than 50 euros.
If you’re willing to pay a little more, then there are still places available for finals in a number of disciplines, such as swimming, athletics, rowing, basketball and boxing. For the more fortunate, it is still possible to attend the opening ceremony on the Seine, for the sum of 1,600 euros.
Resales in spring
At the end of April, those who have tickets will be able to resell them at the purchase price, via an official platform. At this time, the qualifiers and the various draws will allow everyone to see more clearly the poster for which they paid. At that point, there may be more opportunities. Many supporters were forced to buy tickets via packs during the first phase of ticketing. Even if it means getting tickets for events that don’t interest them but to ensure they attend their favorite competitions.
7.6 million tickets were sold, according to Tony Estanguet, president of Cojo (Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games), who assures that “there are still opportunities”. At the end of November, 400,000 new tickets had been put on sale.
For the lucky ones who already have a place, it will be possible to be part of the “supporters’ square”, an initiative from the organizers who have one objective: to create a square of 50 to 1,000 places responsible for setting the mood during the competitions. The Cojo approaches ticket holders by email to offer them the opportunity to participate in this strategy. Another operation, the “Allez les Bleus” program, a supporters’ club to support French athletes before, during and even after Olympic competitions. The organizers even promise “the possibility of meeting the athletes” for members of this other supporters club.
Success for the Paralympic Games (from August 28 to September 8) is for the moment much more measured. There are many places left among the 2.8 million on the market. At more reasonable prices: 15 euros for the cheapest and 100 euros to attend the final stages.
