Tragic House Fire in Somers Claims the Lives of Four Children

Somers, Connecticut – A devastating house fire in Somers on Tuesday night resulted in the heartbreaking loss of four children, ages 5, 6, 8, and 12. The town’s first selectman, Tim Keeney, expressed the community’s deep sorrow over the tragic event.

“It’s a tremendous loss for the town,” Keeney said, sharing his condolences for the grieving family and community.

The children’s names have not been released, but Keeney indicated that all four were believed to be from one family. The superintendent of schools, Sam Galloway, offered support for students dealing with the tragedy, stating that counseling services will be available throughout the week to aid students in processing the devastating loss.

Firefighters responded to the two-family home on Quality Avenue around 10:30 p.m. to find the entire house engulfed in flames. The fire was so intense that the firefighters encountered difficulty gaining access to the property, having to break through doors that were obstructed by objects.

Despite their obstacles, the firefighters managed to rescue several individuals, with one person even jumping from the second floor to escape the blaze. The home is now a complete loss, leaving a somber and devastating aftermath in the community.

As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the Connecticut State Police and state fire marshal’s office have taken over the case to determine what triggered the tragic event. Meanwhile, the town has expressed its support for those affected by the fire, providing social services and assistance for the firefighters who bravely fought to save lives.

“The whole front of the house was very involved. The first floor right up to the second floor. Limited access. Very hard to get in there. Crews did an extraordinary job trying to get in there and do some rescues. They did several grabs and got victims out,” Somers Fire Chief John Roachem said.

As the community grapples with the heavy loss, the outpouring of support from residents and officials is a reminder of the strength and resilience present in times of adversity.
