San Francisco 49ers dominate 2024 Pro Bowl selections: New players, Manning brothers as coaches, and more

by time news

The San Francisco 49ers dominated the 2024 Pro Bowl rosters, leading the NFL with nine players announced as selections. Among them are first-time Pro Bowlers quarterback Brock Purdy and cornerback Charvarius Ward, as well as wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk who was named an alternate. Additionally, 12 alternates for the NFC stem from the San Francisco team.

In other quarterback selections, the NFC Pro Bowl roster includes the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and the Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford, while the AFC boasts the Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, and the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes. Notable omissions include the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen, the Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff, and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts.

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald of the Rams made history with his selection, becoming the only defensive lineman since 1970 to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first 10 seasons. The Ravens also had seven Pro Bowl players named for the second consecutive year.

Player selections were determined by fan, player, and coach consensus votes. The 49ers dominated fan voting, with Purdy, McCaffrey, and George Kittle all receiving high numbers of fan votes. The NFL shifted to a new format for the Pro Bowl in 2023, replacing the tackle football game with skills competitions culminating in a flag football game between the AFC and NFC teams.

The Pro Bowl Games are set to take place on Feb. 4 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. with the Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli, returning as the coaches of the AFC and NFC teams for the 2024 event.

The 49ers had a league-high nine Pro Bowlers, with quarterback Brock Purdy, cornerback Charvarius Ward, and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk among their standout selections. The team has undrafted cornerback Charvarius Ward to thank for his sensational second-half of the season in 2023, including shutting down Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf in Week 12 and returning an interception for a touchdown three weeks later.

Overall, the 49ers continue to excel with their Pro Bowl selections, with several players making their mark and looking forward to the upcoming event.
