“Foreign Governments Paid Millions to Trump Businesses During His Presidency, Report Finds”

A new report published by the Democratic members of the Oversight Committee of the US House of Representatives has unveiled shocking revelations about the financial dealings of former President Donald Trump during his time in office. According to the report titled “White House for Sale: How Princes and Prime Ministers Paid to Donald Trump”, at least 20 foreign governments and their leaders paid businesses associated with Trump a total of more than 7.8 million dollars.

The report, based on receipts and other documents obtained after a long legal battle, outlines how the real estate businesses of the Trump Company raked in considerable income from governments around the world, including those considered to be bitter rivals of the US or with human rights violations.

China emerged as the top payer, transferring payments of over 5.5 million dollars for the use of Trump Tower in Manhattan and hotels in Washington and Las Vegas. Other countries mentioned in the report include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, India, Turkey, and several others. The report further accuses Trump of violating the Constitution by accepting payments from foreign entities through businesses he owns without seeking or receiving congressional approval, as required by the Constitution.

The report also points out instances where Trump allegedly put his personal interests above the public interest by avoiding imposing sanctions on Chinese institutions that rented space in his buildings, despite allegations of their involvement in aiding North Korea to evade sanctions.

In response to the report, the top Democratic member of the committee, Jamie Raskin, condemned Trump’s actions, stating that they violated the mandates of the Constitution and the precedent set by previous commanders in chief. Raskin emphasized the need for laws to prevent a president from using the presidency for self-enrichment and wealth maximization with the participation of foreign countries.

The publication of the report comes amid an impeachment investigation led by Republicans in the House of Representatives against President Joe Biden, focusing on his son Hunter’s international businesses and allegations of corruption. The release of the report is seen as a response move by the Democrats in light of the ongoing investigation.

The revelations from the report are likely to reignite debates about the ethical and legal implications of a president’s financial dealings with foreign governments, and may have far-reaching implications for future executive conduct.
