ISRO Successfully Generates Electricity in Space

Chennai – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved a major milestone in space technology with the successful experiment of generating electricity in space. The Fuel Cell Power System (FCPS) experiment has produced 180 volts of electricity at an altitude of 350 km.

The fuel cell, developed by ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), has proved to be a significant breakthrough in space technology. The mission was launched on New Year’s Day by a PSLV C58 Exposat (X-ray Polarimeter Satellite) rocket. The rocket carried a module called POEM, which housed 10 satellites, two of which were built by VSSC. FCPS is one of them, and its success has been declared by ISRO.

ISRO has stated that the fuel cell generates electricity using hydrogen and oxygen, with only water being emitted and no other gases. This technology has the potential to be used as a backup system in future space projects.

This achievement marks an important step forward for ISRO and its ongoing efforts in space exploration and technology development. The successful generation of electricity in space opens up new possibilities for sustainable power sources in space missions.
