Veteran Colombian defender Bernando Espinosa, 34, signed a contract this Friday with Atlético Nacional, where he arrives from Girona and where he will have the first experience of his career in his country.
“The player arrives with great enthusiasm to return to live in his native country, from which he emigrated since he was ten years old, and with a great desire to make history with Nacional. Bernardo signs his contract at Verde as a free agent,” the Verdolaga club detailed in a statement. Espinosa has been a substitute at Girona practically the entire season. He only played two league games and two in the Copa del Rey.
In his career, the Colombian, who has been called up on several occasions by the senior team but never made his debut, has played for Racing de Santander, Sevilla, Sporting de Gijón, Espanyol and Girona, as well as for Middlesbrough in England.
“Bernardo stands out for his physical power in duels, good ball delivery and defensive strength. Among his statistics, the 87% effectiveness in passing and 61% of duels won during the 22/23 season of the Spanish league stand out” added Atltico Nacional.
He noted that “he also registers 24 goals in his career,” a fact that added to the rest of the statistics presented by the club “shows the technical quality and experience that Bernardo can bring to the Verde.” In the Medellín team, Espinosa will compete this year in the Copa Libertadores, the league and the Colombia Cup.
