American Airlines Flight Diverted After Passenger Allegedly Punches Flight Attendant

by time news

An American Airlines flight was diverted mid-trip after an irate passenger allegedly punched a flight attendant multiple times. The incident took place on flight 1497 from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in Texas to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport in Montana on Wednesday.

The unruly passenger, identified as Keith Edward Fagiana, caused the plane to divert to Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport in Texas. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a “passenger disturbance” led to the early landing of the Boeing 737.

According to reports, Fagiana allegedly began punching the flight attendant after another passenger complained that he was kicking their chair. Despite efforts by other passengers and flight attendants to restrain him, Fagiana continued to lash out before being placed in zip tie handcuffs.

After being escorted off the plane, Fagiana allegedly spit on local law enforcement and complained about the handcuffs causing him discomfort. He reportedly told the FBI that he could not remember the incident because he had been drinking at bars in Las Vegas prior to the flight.

American Airlines confirmed that no one was injured during the incident but emphasized that acts of violence are not tolerated. The FAA reported 45 attacks by passengers on flight attendants in 2023.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
