You can now visit the “Street Birds” route in the streets of the ISO industrial estate in the San Isidro neighborhood and Carabanchel district. “Street Birds” is a pilot project for early childhood education carried out with 3rd grade students from the CEIP Lope de Vega, and supported by the Madrid City Council, which seeks the creation, implementation and evaluation of new narratives and tools in environmental education.

This program pays tribute to the diversity of birds that give names to the streets of Carabanchel. Thus, Thrush, Goose, Cuckoo, Tortola, Anade and Thrush have become protagonists of the different works of art that can be found in the streets with their name. Route map:

These facilities not only beautify the neighborhood, but also empower schoolchildren and the neighborhood community by allowing them to contribute to the revitalization of public space.” says Raquel Bañón, co-founder of ISO Ecosystem and “Pájaros de Calle” Coordinator.

The workshop program has been structured transversally, fusing various disciplines through which schoolchildren have discovered the world of birds, such as science, art and technology to generate a cascade of sensory, emotional, intellectual stimuli. and physical. These types of holistic experiences establish content on an emotional level and tend to modify the way we relate to the environment that surrounds us. Instead of feeling that we have nothing to do with the environment, we begin to feel part of it and the way we relate to nature changes.

One of the objectives of the project is to generate networks, promote the participation of all of us who live in the neighborhood in a common project, from schoolchildren, teachers, parents, neighbors, professionals, artists…” says Pilar Balsalobre, co-founder of Ecosistema ISO. Numerous professionals and artists from the Carabanchel district have joined the workshops. Javier Rico and María Luisa Pinedo, environmental educators and founders of Aver Aves, an environmental awareness project that offers urban bird watching trips to San Isidro Park and Madrid Río.

In living arts, there was the participation of Raúl Marcos, a stage creator who opened the world of body movement and dance to the little ones, and Jenaro Pérez-Villamil, theater teacher at the Sala Metáforas and director of the inclusive company Teatro de Urano which offers schoolchildren a space to explore their imagination in the creation of characters and stories.

For the aspect of plastic expression, we have Carol Solar, a visual artist from the neighborhood who led the schoolchildren to capture the birds in large format murals on facades using various techniques such as painting or collage. And finally, the 101 Projects collective formed by industrial designers Alejandro Villora, Petr Galkin, Sara Mateu and Andrés Boraita who lead schoolchildren to create collective sculptural pieces in streets and squares.
