Brazil has its new coach. And it is, of course, not Carlo Ancelotti. Long expected to take the helm of the Seleção, the Italian coach finally extended his contract at Real Madrid at the end of December, leaving the Brazilian federation without a solution. The Brazilian technician officially asked his club to leave to take the lead in the selection. Taking charge of the Brazilian selection “is a personal dream come true,” comments the coach in his club’s press release. With Sao Paulo, Dorival Junior won the Brazilian Cup this year. He was expected to take over from Fernando Diniz, sacked on Friday barely six months after his arrival at the head of a Brazilian selection lacking results.

The former president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, had, however, affirmed, in a completely official manner, in July 2023 that Carlo Ancelotti would take over the Seleção from the Copa America 2024. The leader, ultimately, was dismissed in December by a court in Rio due to irregularities during his election in 2022. While the Italian coach chose to continue his coaching career at Real Madrid, signing until 2026.
