A recent study conducted by the information technology security company ESET has revealed that Germany is facing a major security threat due to the presence of over 1.8 million computers running outdated Windows operating systems. These computers have not been updated for years, leaving them vulnerable to cyber attacks while being connected to the internet.

The study, which was published yesterday in Berlin, stated that the majority of these unsecured systems, numbering at about 1.5 million devices, are still running the Windows 7 operating system. Windows 7, which has not been updated for about four years, is no longer supported by Microsoft, leaving these devices highly vulnerable to security threats.

Furthermore, the study found that there are still some devices running old Windows systems such as Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and even the XP operating system, the last update of which was issued by Microsoft 15 years ago.

ESET has warned that these outdated systems are easy targets for cybercriminals, who can easily attack and compromise the security of these devices. With the growing threat of cyber attacks and the increasing sophistication of hackers, the security of these outdated systems poses a serious risk not only to the individual users but also to the overall cybersecurity of the country.

The findings of this study have raised concerns about the lack of awareness and urgency in updating and securing these outdated systems. With the increasing dependence on technology and the internet, it is crucial for individuals and organizations to prioritize cybersecurity and ensure that their systems are regularly updated and protected against potential security threats.
