The MHR, bottom of the Top 14, dominated Toulon this Sunday (27-17) and is now only three points behind 13th, Lyon.

The maintenance operation is well relaunched for Montpellier. The MHR indeed won against the Rugby Club Toulonnais (27-17), this Sunday, at the end of the 12th day of the Top 14. The Héraultais scored three tries by Geoffrey Doumayrou (6th), Janse van Rensburg (52nd ) and Paul Willemse (69th). The evening could have been even better for the Cistes if Dany Priso had not scored a try for the visitors (72nd), depriving Montpellier of the offensive bonus.

With this success, the club of Mohed Altrad and Bernard Laporte still remains bottom of the Top 14, but is only four points behind (compared to eight before this day) on the 13th and virtual play-off, Lyon, which sank on Saturday on the lawn of Toulouse (45-0). The battle will rage until the end at the bottom of the rankings. The RCT, for its part, remains 5th (32 points) after this trip to 0 points in Hérault.

A founding success?

Dominant in the first act, the Cistes were put under pressure by the Varois from the restart and could have foundered because of their blatant indiscipline (10 penalties conceded). But a gift from Beka Gigashvili, with an intercepted pass which led to the try of Janse van Rensburg (52nd) and their self-sacrifice rewarded by that of force from Paul Willemse (69th), while they were outnumbered after the card yellow of Tyler Duguid, author of a voluntary forward, allowed them to obtain their third victory of the season. A success which could well prove to be a foundation in Hérault.
