The song is in French, but sung by a Brazilian. Anna Torres wrote a song in partnership with Marco Duaillibe for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Every day when the sun rises I am ready to overcome myself… No matter the time, I will break the limits. Overcoming the barriers of prejudice. I will give everything for our rights. The world is preparing for the greatest battle, dreaming of the podium, but respect is the most beautiful medal”.

These verses are from the song “A Different World”, which Anna Torres, from Maranhão, released to warm up the atmosphere of the Paris Games, with versions also in English, Portuguese and Spanish. “It’s kind of an anthem for people with disabilities, because it really is a great battle. I live with people with disabilities and it’s a really great fight. And for me, they are the great everyday warriors. They are the super- heroes”, says the singer in an interview with RFI Brazil.

Star of Brazilian music in Paris, where she has lived for twenty years, Anna Torres was once considered by the French as the “Diva of Brazilian Jazz”. The music video for the song featured athletes, models, singers, dancers, musicians from Paris, London and São Luís, all united by inclusion. “This song is arranged by Jean-Philippe Rykiel, who lost his sight at the age of 3 and is a renowned pianist, very respected in France”, she notes.

“The choir was provided by the young people’s choir from the French National Institute for the Blind, who sang the four versions, Portuguese, English, French and Spanish”, adds Anna Torres.

And the Olympic Games inspire art in many ways.

The Exhibition Paris, an Olympic Centenary, 100 years of the history of the Games is on display at the Maison des Initiatives Etudiantes, in the French capital, until September 2024. Organized by historian Pascal Blanchard and the research group Achac, the exhibition addresses the role of Paris in the development of the modern Olympic Games.

In a kind of Cultural Olympics, the city has proposed countless attractions that combine art and sport.

Renowned photographer Françoise Huguier focused her lens on a combat mode. She photographed three-time world boxing champion, French Aya Cissoko, 44, now an actress and writer.

At 81, Françoise, a great traveler and passionate about Africa, says she chose Aya as the model for this project because of the athlete’s Malian origins. “Mali is my second country. I made contact with her, who was acting in a rapper’s video, I photographed her on stage. And also in training.”

Aya Cissoko makes an analogy between boxing and photography, as both are exercises in positioning yourself and identifying the good moment. “She is very discreet, she knows exactly what she wants to take a good photo without being posed. Everything is very natural”, she assesses.

In music, arts and arenas, sport is a source of enchantment. That’s why so many people are already organizing themselves to follow the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
