In the continuation of the war unleashed in the Middle East, the Israeli Army confirmed this Monday the assassination in Syria of Wissam Hassan Tawil, member of Hamas and who is accused of having led the recent rocket attack into Israeli territory.

The same Israeli army confirmed the news of the death of Hassan Tawil, whom considered as “a central figure” in the war that broke out on October 7, 2023.

“The Israel Defense Forces eliminated Hassan in Beit Jinn, Syria. He was a central figure responsible for the rockets launched by Hamas from Syrian territory towards Israel in recent weeks,” said an Israeli Army spokesman.

The death of Wissam Hassan Tawil occurred after the impact of a rocket launched by a drone against the car in which he was traveling in a town about 10 kilometers from the border with Israel. At least one other member of the armed group was on board, who was seriously injured.

Wissam Hassan Tawil was killed this Monday by Israeli forces.

According to Israeli spokespersons, the soldier “directed the Hamas terrorist cells that fired rockets from Syria.”

Hassan Tawil played a prominent role in the direction of military operations in the south and in the images released by the pro-Iran movement he could be seen alongside Hassan Nasrallah and the head of the Iranian group Pasdaran Qassem Soleimani, assassinated by the United States four years ago.

After confirming the death of this military figure, Israel stressed that “they will not allow terrorism from Syrian territory.”

Since the war between both factions broke out on October 7, bombings have been repeated from Syria towards Israel, causing an increase in the conflict in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iranian and pro-Iranian militias are present in Syria as allies of that country’s president, Bashar al-Assad, and Israel often attacks some of its military positions.

On December 30, at least 19 people died in a bombing by unidentified fighters against an Iranian militia convoy and posts in eastern Syria, on the border with Iraq, in an attack attributed to Israel, according to the Syrian Observatory of Human rights.

On October 7, Hamas launched a series of attacks against Israeli territory that left almost 1,200 dead and about 240 hostages.

The Israeli Army, for its part, responded with a bloody military campaign in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, in the midst of requests and treaties for peace, the conflict does not stop and neither do the deaths, since Hamas denounced the death of more than 23,000 people due to attacks by Israeli forces.
