Villareal lost on penalties (7-6) this Monday against the Salamanca Unionistas.
Villarreal, 13th in Liga (Spanish 1st Div.), was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey by the Unionistas de Salamanca (D3), winners after extra time and a penalty shootout (7-6) played Monday.
The match was interrupted on Sunday just before extra time, a power problem having plunged the Salamanca stadium into darkness. The two teams were tied 1-1. Ilias Chakkour opened the scoring for Villarreal in the 81st minute before Alfred Planas equalized five minutes later from the penalty spot.
The match resumed on Monday afternoon, and the Salamanca Unionistas qualified on penalties. They will be the only representatives of the third division in the round of 16.
