Maruti Suzuki Developing Two New 7-Seater Car Models for Indian Market
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on two new car models that are set to be launched in the Indian market, according to recent industry reports. Both of these new cars are said to be 7-seater models, catering to the growing demand for larger vehicles in the country.
One of the upcoming models is a compact MPV that is expected to be positioned under the current Ertiga model. The compact MPV, developed under the code name YDB, is anticipated to hit the market in 2026. It is expected to compete with popular models such as the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exeter, Renault Trier, and the Trier-based Nissan MPV. The YDB model is said to be based on the Suzuki Spacia model, featuring a 1.2-litre Z Series Mild Hybrid 3-cylinder petrol engine.
However, the YDB model will reportedly offer a 7-seater seating arrangement and will not feature sliding doors, unlike the Spazia. The same engine is expected to be offered in the new generation Swift and Dzire models as well.
In addition to the YDB, Maruti Suzuki is also said to be developing a 7-seater Grand Vitara model under the code name Y17. This SUV, with three rows of seats, is expected to compete with models such as the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and M.G. Hector Plus. The Grand Vitara model is anticipated to come with a 1.5-liter strong hybrid petrol engine and will feature exterior and interior changes to differentiate it from the current Grand Vitara model.
The development of these two new 7-seater car models showcases Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to catering to the diverse needs of Indian consumers and further strengthens its presence in the competitive Indian automotive market.
