The island has limited facilities, including an old prison turned tourist office, a library, a gym, a medical center, and a dental treatment room. Residents rely on a supply ship that runs between Pitcrans and the Gambia Islands every week, and some essential items like frozen food can only be purchased at a small local store or obtained through fishing.
Despite the challenges, Christian described Pitcairn as a unique and independent place to live, with residents taking on various roles such as plumber, electrician, mechanic, and builder. The island, which is only two kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide, lacks a proper port or runway, leading to a strong sense of isolation for its inhabitants.
Recruiting new residents has proven to be difficult due to the lack of job opportunities and the remote location of the island. However, the close-knit community and the unique lifestyle have attracted some interest from individuals seeking a different way of life.
