Freedom. This Wednesday, a monument built by left-wing governments was dismantled, presumably allegorical to reconciliation, and at whose inauguration the former president of the Republic, Alfredo Cristiani, from the right, was present.

The presidential candidate of Nuevas Ideas, Nayib Bukele, harshly described this monument, which included two ex-combatants, one representing an Fmln guerrilla and the other a soldier.

When it was inaugurated, Bukele wrote sarcastically, “our country lived in perfect democracy, there was no dictatorship, there was independence of powers and democratic institutions; the left and the right worked hand in hand. All the living forces of the country, together with civil society and NGOs, had us living in an earthly paradise.”

The Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, announced the construction of a new public space on the right of way of Monseñor Romero Boulevard, in the municipality of Antiguo Cuscatlán, in La Libertad, which will be a true monument to reconciliation, according to the times that the country is currently experiencing.

This new public space will allow an interconnection with Bicentenario Park; It will have a cycle-pedestrian circuit of approximately 2.5 kilometers, which will connect La Mascota Street with Merliot Boulevard; It will have underground lighting, pedestrian paths, spaces for commerce, cycle paths, an amphitheater with a cinema included and recreational areas.

This will strengthen the internal tourist attraction, driven by the current tranquility and security that prevails in the territory. This, in turn, will provide more pleasant, safe and welcoming environments for the population and foreign visitors.

Until before the statues were demolished, no one visited this space, “it was a monument to corruption,” said Rodríguez, a perception endorsed by President Bukele. “Just the doll that is here cost a little over a million dollars. Now, we are going to have a quality public space, where all Salvadorans will be able to enjoy,” the official emphasized.
