Expensive Watch Found on Stockholm Street Turns Out to be a Fake

The police in Stockholm are on the hunt for the owner of a watch that was found on the street on New Year’s Day. Initially believed to be an expensive timepiece from the Swiss luxury manufacturer Audemars Piguet, the investigation took a turn when experts and members of the watch community cast doubt on its authenticity.

Anna Lublin Stålfuvud, a spokesperson for the police, stated in an email to the press that the investigation was progressing, and several people had come forward with information regarding the watch. However, it has since been revealed that the watch is not what it seemed.

According to Martin Dehlin, the founder of the watch community Audemars Club, the watch is likely a pirate copy, worth only a fraction of the value of the genuine article. “Above all, we want to remove replicas from the market,” he stated in an interview with SVT Nyheter.

Mikael Wallhagen, a watch expert from the SVT program “Antikrundan,” also weighed in on the matter, stating that there were “many red flags at just a first glance” when examining the purported luxury timepiece.

It is clear that the owner of the replica watch is still at large, and the police are urging anyone with information about the item or its origins to come forward. As the investigation continues, it serves as a reminder to be cautious when dealing with valuable items and to seek expert opinions before making any judgements about their authenticity.
