The Greek Police have arrested four people for their alleged membership in a network accused of selling forgeries of paintings, among them artists such as Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock, and whose activity would also extend to other European countries.
The four suspects were based in the region of Rile upin the vicinity of Athensand the security forces have seized in the records some of the counterfeits that they allegedly intended to sell and that also included imitations of works of René Magritte and Henri Matisse.
Furthermore, in these records, the authorities have located antiquities that are authentic and that have now become available to the culture Ministryas reported by the Police.
The investigators completed the operation after an undercover activity in which a member of the Police showed interest in purchasing some of the works, specifically four paintings by Picasso and one by Pollock that the network intended to place in exchange for 4.4 million euros.
