SAS plane forced to return to Arlanda due to smell of smoke in the cabin

An SAS plane, flight SK716, en route from Arlanda to Helsinki, had to make a U-turn and return to the airport after indications of the smell of smoke in the cabin, according to a report by Aftonbladet.

The aircraft took off at 14:04 and subsequently landed at 14:15, as confirmed by Swedavia. “It was a normal landing, but we can confirm that it was a normal landing,” said Ellen Laurin, press officer at Swedavia, to TT.

According to Irena Busic, press manager at SAS, there were 28 passengers on board the plane when it turned back. “I don’t know more than that there was a smell of smoke in the cabin,” Busic said.

Although the situation necessitated the passengers being rebooked onto another aircraft, Busic emphasized that everyone was fine and it was a completely normal safety landing at Arlanda. She also clarified that it was not an emergency landing.

The incident drew attention due to the concerning nature of a potential in-flight fire, but the situation was resolved without any reported injuries or damage.
