King Mohamed VI of Morocco decrees a pardon for almost 1,400 citizens

MADRID, 11 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

King Mohamed VI of Morocco announced this Wednesday a royal pardon for 1,381 people, which will result in the reduction of sentences or the release of those convicted for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Moroccan Independence Manifesto.

“On the occasion of the eternal anniversary of January 11 of this year, (…), (Mohamed VI) has issued his noble order to pardon a group of people, both detained and free, who were condemned by the various honorable courts of the Kingdom, and which amount to 1,381 people,” reads a royal statement shared by the Moroccan news agency MAP.

Almost 1,200 prisoners will benefit from this measure, of which 234 will be pardoned from the rest of their sentences, 959 will have their sentence reduced and five will go from life imprisonment to a fixed term.

Of the citizens who are currently free, 48 of them have been pardoned from the prison sentence, nine will be forgiven from the prison sentence but maintaining the fine that corresponds to them and 111 people will see the fines imposed remitted.
