Winter continues its offensive. After a slight lull expected this weekend in terms of precipitation, thanks to the arrival of an anticyclone, the sky in several French regions could darken again next week.

“Calmer and drier weather conditions will set in on Friday across the country but it will still be very cold in the morning and the gray weather will sometimes persist in the South-West,” forecasts in its Météo France bulletin.

The orange vigilance for snow and ice which concerned five departments of Occitanie (Aude, Lozère, Hérault, Aveyron and Tarn) has been lifted. On the other hand, raw orange vigilance is maintained for Pas-de-Calais.

Snow and ice possible at the start of the week

On the plains of the South-West, in Limousin, in Alsace and from the Val de Saône to the valleys of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, gray weather will also be frequent and coupled with fog which can deposit frost on the ground.

In the afternoon, these grays will persist around the Garonne valley, more locally in the eastern valleys. The mercury will go negative in many departments, particularly in the northern half, this weekend. The morning frosts will sometimes be severe and we will be wary of the refreezing of soils that are still wet or snow-covered over a large south-eastern quarter up to the Mediterranean regions.

From the start of next week, snow and ice could return due to a conflict of two air masses, “between the mild air over the Atlantic, and the cold which will resist in the northeast », predicts The Weather Channel. According to Météo France, the thermometer could rise significantly from Wednesday, but with precipitation.
