Actor Vincent Gallo Under Investigation by Union After Allegations of Inappropriate Remarks

Vincent Gallo, known for his role in the 2003 film The Brown Bunny, is currently under investigation by the actors’ union Sag-Aftra after multiple women accused him of making sexually explicit and unsettling comments during the casting process for the movie The Policeman. The film, directed by Jordan Gertner, revolves around the rapist and serial killer James DeAngelo, also known as the Golden State Killer.

At least three women reported Gallo to the union for allegedly making inappropriate remarks during the casting process for the film in November 2023. Two of the women were in callback auditions to play DeAngelo’s victims in the movie, while the third woman did not attend her callback audition after hearing about the comments Gallo made to other women.

The filed complaints include disturbing details of Gallo allegedly pressuring the actors and making sexually explicit comments during the audition process. According to Rolling Stone, Gallo allegedly told one of the actors that she must “truly believe you will die if you don’t do as I say”, in addition to other explicit comments.

Representatives for Gallo and James Franco, who also stars in the movie, did not respond to requests for comment. Similarly, a representative of Cast Iron Studios, who cast The Policeman, did not respond to requests for comment.

In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Gertner and Pacific Media Productions told Rolling Stone that the allegations were taken “very seriously”, and a Sag-Aftra intimacy coordinator was ultimately hired for the production.

The investigation is ongoing, and Sag-Aftra continues to monitor the situation. The representatives for the production company also expressed pride in the movie they have made and issued an apology to the actresses for their experiences.

As the investigation is still ongoing, the outcome and potential consequences for Gallo remain to be seen.
