Jaffna Introduces GPS Monitoring for Waste and Excreta Bouncers

In a recent meeting held at the audience hall of the Northern Province Governor’s Secretariat in Jaffna, it was revealed that the improper disposal of waste and excreta has been causing various problems in the area. Northern Province Governor B.S.M. Charles expressed concerns about the issue and directed the authorities to take necessary measures.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that defecation activities are being carried out through private institutions in Jaffna. However, the feces filled in the bowers are not being disposed of properly, with reports of dumping near public residences, leading to health concerns.

In response to these issues, the Governor instructed the officers to implement several measures. These include the monitoring of defecation bowers through GPS expertise, registration of all establishments engaged in defecation operations with the Provincial Ministry of Health, and the display of registration details on banners used for these activities.

Furthermore, the Governor also called for local government bodies to announce disciplinary rules for those involved in defecation operations and for the monitoring of the bowers with the cooperation of the traffic police.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Commissioner of Local Government Department, Commissioner of Jaffna Municipal Council, and other relevant departments.

The introduction of GPS monitoring for waste and excreta bouncers in Jaffna is a significant step towards addressing the issues caused by improper disposal and will hopefully lead to a cleaner and healthier environment for residents in the area.
