New Delhi ∙ The Indian Army has launched a military operation called ‘Operation Sarva Shakti’ to drive away the Pakistani terrorists who are continuing to attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The new mission was launched with the objective of suppressing the terrorists on both sides of the Pir Panchal mountains in Kashmir. The army has prepared for a decisive move against the backdrop of an increase in terrorist attacks in Rajouri and Poonch areas.

Security sources said that the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps and the Nagrotha-based White Knight Corps will carry out a simultaneous military operation. Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, Special Task Force and intelligence agencies will also be part of the mission. Operation Sarva Shakti is similar to the 2003 Operation Sarpavinas to evacuate terrorists from the same region.

Army Chief Manoj Pandey had recently said that terrorist activities in the region have almost ended since the 2003 mission. But at present there are indications that an attempt is being made to revive it. About twenty soldiers have lost their lives in the clashes that have taken place in the last few months. Four soldiers lost their lives in December when an army vehicle was destroyed in an explosion. It is in this context that the army has launched a new mission.
