If your baby is 6 to 9 weeks old, it can receive a vaccine against the rotavirus at Centrum Jeugd & Gezin The Hague. When your baby is 3 months old, he or she will receive the vaccine again. Rotavirus can cause severe diarrhea and dehydration in babies. Babies born from January 1, 2024 will be offered this vaccination free of charge.
The vaccination is not an injection, but your baby receives drops of the vaccine in the mouth. The vaccine can be given at any location of the Youth & Family Center (CJG). Your child will receive the vaccine during one of the appointments at the CJG location. These appointments are scheduled together with you. The vaccination is voluntary; you decide whether your child receives the vaccine.
Why is the rotavirus vaccine important?
The virus is contagious and common. Especially in children up to 2 years old. When a child contracts the virus, the stomach and intestines become inflamed. This causes the child to develop a fever, vomit and develop very thin diarrhea. This can cause children to become dehydrated. Approximately 3,500 children have to go to hospital with rotavirus every year.
