Neyveli: NLC has awarded a contract to Bell to set up a 2,400 MW thermal power plant in Odisha.

NLC Chairman Prasannakumar Motupalli said:

NLC, India has awarded the contract for the construction of a 2,400 MW power plant to Bharat Mikum, known as ‘Bell’. Located in Jharsuguda district of Odisha, this power plant will operate based on green field ultra supercritical technology.

An agreement has already been made to supply 2,400 MW of electricity generated here to the states of Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Kerala and Puducherry.

Coal for this power project will be sourced from NLC’s open pit mines in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur district of Odisha.

The first unit of the scheme is scheduled to be commissioned in the financial year 2028-29. As the power plant is set up near the coal mine, the cost of production will be reduced.

As a result, this NLC power plant will become a tough competition for other power generation companies. NLC, the company will generate and supply low cost electricity to its consumers.
