Master roofer Jonas Dämgen uses drones to measure roofs and detect damage. He was once ridiculed for this – but that is over.

Jonas Dämgen is a tall and strong man. “After the hard training, I was an indestructible machine,” says the master roofer and smiles winningly. These days, the 30-year-old entrepreneur isn’t on the roof as often anymore and, according to his own statement, is no longer quite as fit. There are two main reasons for this: Firstly, as managing director, he has more office work to do. Secondly, Dämgen and his team measure and assess the damage to a roof using drones and innovative software – so he no longer has to work at dizzying heights in wind and weather for this part of his work. Last year, the Mainz-based company was awarded the German umbrella award “Dachkrone” as the best digital company, among other things.

Entrepreneur Dämgen stands in the middle of the large warehouse in the Laubenheim district of Mainz while he talks about his business. It quickly becomes clear that the entrepreneur and his team are taking unconventional paths. In the middle of the hall there is a table tennis table, a dart board hangs on the wall, and in addition to the portrait photos of the around 20 employees, action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger also smiles down at customers and employees in a picture from his younger years. Chairs are arranged in a circle around a wooden table, obviously this is the place for meetings. The hierarchies are flat, the roofers and their boss are on first-name terms. The company founder, who learned roofing from scratch with his father in the Hunsrück, clearly feels at home in his hall and makes it clear: “We are a very familiar bunch.”
