The autonomist movement at the head of the Corsican community, Femu a Corsica, brought together its activists on Sunday January 14 in Corte (Haute-Corse), the opportunity to hammer home its desire for autonomy for 2024, within the framework of the discussions with the government on legislative developments on the island.
In front of several hundred activists gathered in an amphitheater at the University of Corte for the general assembly of the movement, Gilles Simeoni, the president of the Corsican community, gave a speech lasting a little less than an hour announcing a “decisive moment for 2024, which should allow us to achieve the status of global autonomy. »
The president of the executive of Corsica also recalled the arguments in favor of autonomy, which should allow, according to him, to “respond to everyday expectations and emergencies. I am referring to transport issues, [de] mafia abuses, [de] health, [d’]economy[e]… Autonomy is not a magic wand, but it must give us the means to develop. »

Passage in front of the French Parliament, then referendum in Corsica
For François Martinetti, secretary general of the autonomist movement, this new status “presents an opportunity of historic significance to engage the Corsican people on the path of life, hope and emancipation. It opens the way to the political settlement of the Corsican question, which will make it possible to resolve half a century of conflicts and to inaugurate a new era of relations between Corsica and the French Republic, based on mutual respect and recognition. »
Gilles Simeoni also recalled the schedule of discussions initiated with the government: “a political agreement in Corsica in the next few weeks, then in Paris (…). Then, the separate vote, on the basis of this historic agreement, of the constitutional and organic text before the end of the first semester by the National Assembly and the Senate, followed by the meeting of Parliament in congress in the fall. to approve this constitutional revision. A consultation of the Corsicans, on the basis of a referendum, is also planned.
