For the President of the Republic, “AOC” made an “awkward comment”, but “she was right to apologize”, he said, assuring that “there is no conflict between the two schools” and that “France, the Republic is strong in all these systems”.

Tackles unreplaced hours

Without mentioning his minister by name, the head of state indicated that “the choice of the school where we send our children is a private choice. We don’t have to judge people, put them on trial on this and then, we must do everything so that we have a public school, which meets the best standards and which is strong, and a private school under contract which is as strong as possible and which fully respects the rules of the Republic.

Emmanuel Macron also assured that he would “continue to forcefully attack” non-replaced hours in teaching, so that “every student has a teacher for each hour of lessons that is planned”.

Work “in peace”

Tuesday morning, the minister went to the Littré school to present an “apology” in person, declaring “regrets[er] for having cited them by name” to the press microphones. “I want them to be able to be spared a little from all this and work peacefully again,” she added.

On site, she declared having had “a useful, constructive conversation, in which we discussed the future of the school together. They shared with me their expectations, their vision of how to improve and address the school’s problems. It is this road map that I will continue to carry, by remaining attentive,” she concludes.
