What is happening in the Red Sea? Causes and consequences of this new crisis.- Abel Romero and José Ignacio Castro
The Houthi attacks on merchant traffic in the Red Sea have opened a new front in the already complex geopolitical chessboard of the Middle East. Justified as support for the Palestinian cause, and as a reaction to Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, they are causing a major crisis in one of the most relevant maritime routes globally. By joining this route Asia with Europe, it could lead to a real supply crisis, with potential undesirable economic consequences. Added to this is that the situation is facilitating new movements on the regional geopolitical board by the different players, both internal and external.
