Several years ago, Sandra Falkskär from Karlskrona bought a bunch of old photo frames second hand.

A photograph was left in one of the frames and over the years Sandra has thought about who the people in the picture are but it all fell into oblivion.

– I thought it was such a nice photo, like, she says.

But in connection with a recent move, Sandra saw the frames again – and finally made a search. She posted a picture of the frames, and the photograph, in a local Facebook group in Karlskrona last November. The post was spread all over Sweden and became the most read post in the group throughout 2023.

– People thought it was exciting, she says.

But the story behind the photograph would turn out to be closer than she could have imagined.

“You get confused”

Yes, it turned out that one of the people in the picture was the father of one of Sandra’s colleagues.

– It was great fun, and then there was a little twist when it was my colleague, so I just took it to work and left it to her.

The father in question is Bertil Lindström, who turns 70 this year.

– It’s a bit of fun, it’s really a coincidence, he says about the photograph and that the frame finally found its home.

– Haha, you get confused, he says.

In addition to Bertil, it is his siblings Magnus and Eva, 72 and 67 years old respectively today, who can be seen in the photograph. The siblings were born in Stockholm but they ended up in Karlskrona in 1965 when their father was in the military.

That’s what happened when the photo disappeared

The photograph was taken sometime in the 1950s. Probably 1957-1958, according to Bertil. But not in any professional photo studio, as you might think.

– I think the picture was taken…well, my mother took a photography course when she was young, and I think it may have been in connection with that that she took that card, says Bertil

There is also an explanation for why the photograph ended up in other hands and second hand.

– I understand that the person bought that frame in connection with my mother’s death a couple of years ago. So in connection with that, we kept most of it and the rest was sold, so then that card disappeared from us, says Bertil.
