Sivakasi Corporation Vacancy Impact on Development Works: Updates and Solutions

As the vacancies in the Sivakasi Corporation are not filled, the development works are affected.

Sivakasi Municipal Corporation was formed in 2021 by merging 9 panchayats including Sivakasi Municipality, Thirutangal Municipality, Pallapatti around Sivakasi, Chithurajapuram, Naranapuram. In the first phase, 48 wards were created by merging Sivakasi Municipality and Thiruthangal Municipality and upgraded it to Municipal Corporation. At present, the management is being divided into 4 zones. Preliminary work is underway to merge the Panchayats with the Corporation early next year.

In this situation, the posts of Manager, Accountant, Revenue Officer, Assistant Engineer are vacant in the Corporation and the development work has been affected. At present 54 works under Centenary Fund Rs.50 crores, 15 works under Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme Rs.15 crores, Corporation Special Fund Rs.10 crores for construction of new office building for the Corporation, 15th Central Finance Committee fund Rs. 8.50 crores, 149 works are being done through 13 projects including 40 works.

There are 8 Assistant Engineer Posts in Corporation Engineering Department. Also, a total of 16 posts are required for work inspectors, work supervisors and technical assistants. However, at present there are only 2 Assistant Engineers, 1 Inspector and 1 Supervisor. As a result, project implementation, monitoring and inspection are being affected.

In this situation, the corporation management decided to appoint 4 technical assistants in the engineering department on the basis of 6 months contract.

In this regard, the approval has been obtained from the District Collector, and the Corporation officials said that 3 POs are to be appointed on a salary of Rs.1216 per day and 4 POs are to be appointed on a contractual basis at a salary of Rs.1096 per day.
