Coffee is not just a cozy moment.
It is also a climate culprit – just after red meat.
This is the opinion of researchers at Stockholm University who are currently investigating the impact of Swedish coffee culture on the climate.
– Coffee is so romanticized that we refuse to talk about its back sides, says researcher Anne Charlotte Bunge at the Stockholm Resilience Center at the university to Vetenskapsradion in P1.
Comes right after red meat
– To grow coffee, you need a lot of land. Looking at the climate impact that comes from coffee production, it comes right after red meat.

– Even though there is a lot of evidence that shows that coffee consumption has such a big environmental impact, we refuse to talk about it, says Anne Charlotte Bunge.
A more climate-friendly solution could be coffee produced in a laboratory or chocolate that is not made from cocoa beans.
