The Danish Railways, DSB, today presented the first of the Talgo 230 units for its fleet of long-distance Intercity trains for international services, initially from Aarhus and Copenhagen to the German city of Hamburg.

The Talgo 230 platform trains reduce energy consumption by 30 percent compared to the standard, thanks to their rolling technology and the reduced weight of the cars, the units are also 95 percent recyclable.

For certification, all systems must be validated in accordance with the reliability levels required by DSB and to guarantee their compatibility with the railway infrastructure and the locomotives that will drive the trains.

Contract

In February 2020, DSB awarded Talgo a framework contract worth €500 million that included a first firm order for €134 million for the supply of eight complete Talgo 230 trains.
In April 2021 and in response to increased demand for international travel, DSB increased the size of the fleet with a second additional order of cars that increased the total capacity of the eight trains by 10 percent to reach 492 seats. In April 2023, the operator placed a third order, for eight additional trains and a value of 184 million euros.

The Talgo 230 platform was also selected by the German Railways, DB, in 2019 for a framework agreement to manufacture up to one hundred trains that has been finalized in two orders totaling 79 units, the first of which are already in the certification process and They will be used on national services and on the Berlin- Amsterdam connection
