“The only man I’ve ever been afraid of is a woman named Griselda Blanco” opens with this phrase, actually pronounced by the king of drug traffickers Pablo Escobar Griseldathe new serie Netflix which traces the story of the most powerful woman in the Medellín Cartel, Colombian drug queen, played by actress Sofia Vergara.

The true story of Griselda Blanco, the “godmother of coca”

Griselda Blanco was born on February 15, 1943 in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.

At 11 he moved with his family to Medellín where, abandoned by her father and with an alcoholic mother, she begins to prostitute herself.

Just twenty years old, Blanco marries the forger Carlos Trujillo, with whom he had three children: Dixon, Osvaldo and Uber. A few years later, she kills her husband over money issues.

Widowhood lasts very little, Griselda remarries Alberto Bravoa well-known drug trafficker, and with him she moved to New York, immediately entering the family’s cocaine production and dealing business.

From the United States Blanco expands its empire in Colombia, collaborating with thechildhood friend Pablo Escobar. In a short time, Griselda became one of the most important figures of the Medellín Cartel, earning the nickname “godmother of coca”.

In the meantime, once her second marriage ended, the woman remarried Dario Sepulveda, with whom she had her fifth child, called Michael Corleone in honor of the character de The Godfather.

Accused of over 200 murders

After moving to California for business, Griselda Blanco was arrested and stayed jailed for 20 yearsaccused of over 200 murders.

Released in 2004 Blanco was repatriated to Colombia where she returned to lead the life of a free citizen.

In 2012, at the age of 69, Griselda was victim of two hitmen, who shot her while she was shopping at a butcher’s shop in Medellín, where she had returned to live. It was a settling of accounts.

The same fate befell the “godmother’s” children, all murdered for reasons of settling accounts. Everyone except Michael Corleone, who lives in Miami where manages the company Pure Blancoactive in the fashion, film, music and cannabis industries.
