Josef Fritzl is today 88 years old. He is in a prison for the mentally ill near the city of Krems.

In 2009, Fritzl was sentenced to life in prison for keeping his daughter Elisabeth confined for 24 years in the family’s basement in the town of Amstetten. The cellar was small, soundproof, without windows and with bad air.

Fritzl abused his daughter and fathered a total of seven children with her. Three of the children lived in the basement with her.

In the apartment above, he is said to have lived a “normal” life with his wife Rosmarie, from whom he was divorced, and three of the other children he had with his daughter.

According to a report, Fritzl does not pose a danger due to his advanced age, writes the newspaper Small newspaper. The 88-year-old has become weak in his legs and has to use a walker, and he is said to be on the verge of dementia.
