The Ecuador Under-23 National Team is getting closer to qualifying for the final phase of the 2024 Pre-Olympic Tournament. Miguel Bravo’s team beat Bolivia 2-0 and remains leader of Group A.
In the first half, Ecuador would take the lead on the scoreboard after 21 minutes thanks to John Mercado who made a series of dribbles and then hit a left footed shot that goalkeeper Bruno Poveda could not stop.
A few minutes later, Ecuador almost scored the second, but the Bolivian goalkeeper reacted in a great way to prevent the goal. Around the 30th minute, Bolivia came close with Miguel Villaroel who tried to generate from mid-distance, but the ball went far over the top.
At 37′, Yaimar Medina would have another dangerous chance for Ecuador with a great shot from a free kick that Pineda saved in a great way.
For the second half, there wouldn’t be much action on the Caracas stage. At 66′, Mercado almost achieved his double with a shot that was barely contained by goalkeeper Pineda.
In added time, Ecuador sealed the victory with Allen Obando who received it in the area and there he took a whip to beat the goalkeeper who could do little to avoid the final 2-0.
With this result, Ecuador reached seven points and is the leader of group A and is now preparing to face Brazil on date 4 while Bolivia will have a rest on the next day.
